Megan and Joseph's Wedding at The Fairmont Copley Plaza
“The moment we first walked through the lobby at the Fairmont Copley Plaza we were captivated...”
Congratulations on your wedding! What made you decide on having your wedding with us at Fairmont?
Having met in Back Bay, we knew there would be no better place to get married. The moment we first walked through the lobby at the Fairmont Copley Plaza we were captivated by the timeless beauty and splendor of the hotel. After meeting with Tracey Gavin, our wedding coordinator, we knew we would see our dreams for our wedding day come to fruition. We were fortunate to have our cocktail hour in the Oval Room followed by dinner and dancing in the Grand Ballroom. We couldn't have been more pleased with our decision to have our wedding at the Fairmont!
Where did you have your ceremony?
We were married at Emmanuel Church on Newbury Street. I carried my grandmother's silk handkerchief that she as well as my mother, aunt, and cousin carried on their wedding days.
Tell us about the flowers you chose. Did you go traditional or contemporary?
Our flowers were a combination of pink and ivory peonies, garden roses, and roses to complement my bridesmaids' blush pink gown. The flowers along with amber uplighting in the Grand Ballroom really added to the romantic tone of our wedding.
Tell us about the meal you served your guests. What type and flavor cake did you have at your reception?
With our wedding falling on the summer solstice, our menu consisted of many seasonal options. Entree selections included beef tenderloin, Atlantic salmon, and risotto. I was especially excited about the late night snacks, which included New England lobster sliders and Fenway franks. The cake was a strawberry orange blossom cake made by Cakes to Remember. I also surprised Joe with a Patriots themed groom's cake. Everything was exceptional!
What element(s) did you add to make the wedding uniquely ‘yours’?
Since we chose to be married in the city where we met, we wanted our wedding to be a reflection of a love story that began in Boston. Instead of table numbers, guests' escort cards indicated a table name that was a place unique to Joe and me. These included the names of streets on which we have lived as well as the names of cities where we have lived together. We also asked our DJ to introduce our bridal party and us to the song "I'm Shipping Up to Boston" by the Dropkick Murphys. It was a great way to kick off the celebration with our guests!
Another integral part of the day is the wedding dress! Tell us about what you chose to wear. Did you follow the old English saying “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue”?
I wore a lace and tulle A-line gown with a sweetheart neckline and delicate tulle straps by Monique Lhuillier. I was with my mother, sister, and mother-in-law the day that I "said yes to the dress." The gown I chose happened to be one of the last that I tried on after visiting several different stores. I immediately knew it was "the dress" when I walked out and saw the reaction on their faces that I hoped to see on Joe's as I walked down the aisle. It suited my personality and style.
Our favorite moment from our wedding day was being able to sit down at our sweetheart table after our first dance and finally absorb the beauty and excitement of the day (while trying to enjoy the delicious food!). It was a sacred moment for us to be able to take in all that had transpired while being surrounded by our closest friends and family.
