1. Celebrate local –
a. all of the typical guest room furniture (casegoods and soft goods) is produced within 500 miles of Pittsburgh (this excludes mirrors and accessories)
b. The porcelain tile in the in the typical bathroom is produced within 500 miles of Pittsburgh, and the glass tile in the bathroom is made in Chicago.
c. All of the wood veneers in the typical guest room are from American species of wood.
d. All major public area hardwired decorative light fixtures are made in America (including guest corridor ceiling fixture and sconce)
e. 100% of the artwork on this project is by Pittsburgh Artists
f. Key light fixtures in the lobby and ballroom are made by local Pittsburgh Artisans
g. Artifacts that were excavated from the building site will be on display throughout the hotel
2. Recycle -
a. Each guest room and suite has a recycling bin and trash bin.
b. The desk chairs in the typical guest room are ‘cradle to cradle’ and completely recyclable
c. Most of the staff task chairs are ‘cradle to cradle’
d. The bed throws in the typical guest room and one bedroom suite are made from 50-100% recyclable fiber
e. Use of innovative solid surface – we used Alkemi – a solid surface made from recycling metal shavings – in the Lobby Bar tables and bar
f. The hotel will be sorting all of its recycling
3. Conserve –
a. We made an effort to use almost exclusively CFL, LED, or low watt incandescent light bulbs in both the architectural lighting as well as the decorative lighting
b. Low flow toilets – 1.28gpf
c. Public restroom has sensor sinks
d. Guestrooms have occupancy sensors
e. Our wood floors are made from FSC certified wood
4. Breath well –
a. There is NO VINYL wallcovering in our hotel. This is a major coup.
b. There is NO VINYL in any of our upholstery
c. All of our systems furniture is EQ 4.5
d. Low VOCs in our paints and glues
e. There is no urea-formaldehyde in our furniture
