Fairmont San Francisco, Penthouse Suite
San Francisco will capture your heart as you stand on the immense terrace of Fairmont San Francisco’s Penthouse Suite, with the stunning cityscape spread out below you like a magic carpet. The palatial suite (some 6,000 square feet) occupies the entire 8th floor of the historic main building, with a trio of expansive bedrooms and a formal dining room suitable for accommodating receptions of up to 150 guests. The suite's billiard room features a vaulted ceiling and handcrafted Persian tiles, and its professional kitchen is stocked with gourmet organic fare and a selection of fine wines. Fairmont Jakarta, Presidential Suite
For privacy and serenity in dynamic Jakarta, book a stay in the indulgent Presidential Suite high atop the Fairmont Jakarta. Exclusive, expensive and expansive, this 3,261-square-foot suite, which was finished in late 2015, offers sublime views of the twinkling Jakarta skyline, as well as every creature comfort imaginable. The master bedroom is a thing of beauty, with its stunning views and gorgeous artwork, including a painting titled ‘Sunflower’ by the legendary Indonesian artist Affandi. The Savoy, The Savoy Suite
The Savoy recently launched a stunning new two-bedroom suite on the sixth floor of the riverside of the hotel. Open and light-filled, the layout of the new suite exaggerates the unrivalled views of the River Thames and iconic London landmarks across two large windows. It was this same view that inspired Claude Monet to paint his famous series of London bridges as he resided in this very same suite. The Savoy Suite comprises an entrance foyer, master bedroom, en-suite bathroom and master dressing room, living room with private luxury bar and hydraulic table that can be installed for dining. There is the option to connect to a further guest room. The Savoy Suite features a changing collection of art so that guests can enjoy their own private gallery without having to leave the comfort of their suite.
Fairmont Peace Hotel, Indian Suite
The gorgeous Fairmont Peace Hotel pays homage to the intriguing and dramatic history of Shanghai: deliciously decadent, highly cultured and very wealthy. It opened in 1929 as the Cathay, the first high rise in China, and the Art Deco gem became the toast of Shanghai. Fairmont's restoration, completed in 2010, preserves all that was best and most authentic of the original hotel. The Nine Nation Suites concept was the brainchild of Sir Victor Sassoon, the hotel’s founder, and some of the suites, including the fabulous Indian Suite, are maintained in their original state. The Indian Suite was Sassoon's personal favorite, and it might well become yours too, with its Mughal arch in intricate patterns of emerald green. Bejeweled elephants gaze down at you from the walls; opulent handmade carpets tickle your feet, and the ceilings blaze in vivid colours. The original stained-glass windows, protected by the Shanghai government, look across the Bund and Huangpu Rivers to the buildings of Pudong.
Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club, William Holden Cottages
Movie star William Holden was larger than life in the 1960s, so it's no surprise the William Holden Cottages in the historic club he built in Kenya are super-sized at 3,541 square feet each. Holden fell in love with this wedge of Kenya, and you'll find it hard to resist as you warm yourself before the imposing stone fireplace or gaze at Mount Kenya from your window. In the ‘50s and ‘60s, celebrities, royalty and heads of state (think Winston Churchill, Bob Hope, President Lyndon Johnson and Bing Crosby) were guests here and may have stayed in the same graciously furnished cottage you visit today, with its expansive lounge area and adjoining bedrooms. Stand on your private deck and admire the manicured lawns and flower-filled ponds that yield to a sweeping highland forest, then on up to the snow-dusted peak, known locally as Kirinyaga. At night, listen for the roaring of lions from the adjoining wildlife preserve.
The Plaza, Royal Suite
New York's Plaza, a Fairmont Managed Hotel, overlooks Central Park and conjures up images of fairytale castles with its regal architecture. Its magnificent Royal Suite, with rich textiles and sumptuous furnishings, could be the court of Louis XV. Monarchs and presidents have looked out the windows of this suite's spacious living area to Fifth Avenue and the Pulitzer Fountain, and have slept in the cream-and-gray elegance of the master bedroom. The Plaza, Legacy Suites
If you prefer contemporary decor, try the Grand Penthouse Suite, or any one of the 29 Legacy Suites, redesigned by Champalimaud to be evocative of Upper East Side homes. You'll find hand-tufted rugs and classic crown molding juxtaposed against lavish fabrics and contemporary works of art, showcasing New York’s cultural landmarks. Dramatic lighting and beautifully finished woodwork complete the look. At a staggering 2,100 square feet, the Grand Penthouse Suite, located on the southwest corner of the hotel's penthouse floor, affords extraordinary views of Central Park from the suite's large windows. The master bedroom opens to a lovely private terrace with breathtaking views of the legendary skyline.
Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, Outlook Cabin
The Outlook Cabin has received kings and queens of England more than once, most recently Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip in 2005, earning its nickname the "Royal Retreat." Luxury and comfort is evident in every detail of the welcoming bedrooms, the vast veranda and the enormous stone fireplace that warms you on chilly nights. The term "log cabin" doesn't capture the majesty of the 6,000-square-foot retreat, which houses an enormous polished-wood dining room, six bedrooms and huge windows looking out on the miracle of Jasper National Park, a view that inspires awe in every season.
