Unrequited

On my arrival, my room had been given to a couple with the same last name by mistake.  Once the front desk resolved this, he met me in the hallway and insisted upon bringing my luggage to the correct room, across the lawn to another building in the rain.  He apologized a number of times.  We joked and made the best of the situation.  He suggested that he show me around the island on one of his days off.  We never saw each other again until the day I went home.  Who knows if fate had been different?
