Gingerbread Airplane Cookies

Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoons ground ginger
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2/3 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup dark brown sugar
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 large egg
Preparation

- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, spices, baking soda, and salt; set aside
- Cream the butter and brown sugar until smooth and fluffy
- Whisk in molasses and egg and slowly add dry ingredients; mix just until a dough forms
- Place dough on floured plastic wrap and set aside to rest
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees, divide dough in half. Working with one half at a time, place dough on floured parchment or waxed paper; roll out to desired thickness, turning, lifting, and flouring dough (and rolling pin) as needed
- Cut out shapes and transfer to baking sheets. Decorate with sugar or sprinkles of choice
- Bake until firm and edges are slightly beginning to darken. It should take 12 to 15 minutes, depending on size
- Cool on the sheets and decorate further as desired
