Spa Spotlight: A Journey through the Salish Sea

Willow Stream Spa at Fairmont Empress is pleased to introduce The Salish Sea body experience, featuring organic seaweed skincare line Seaflora.  Seaflora products are made with seaweed that is harvested by hand off the coast of Vancouver Island between Sooke and Jordan River. British Columbia’s outer coast is home to 600 different species of seaweed.  The new 90 minute body experience begins with a Seaweed Body Polish, a wrap with seaweed fronts and finishing with a massage using a Sea Kelp Lotion and Seaweed Gel that will nourish and hydrate the skin. 

The Seaweed Lady

Known as the “The Seaweed Lady”, Diane Bernard is committed to creating luxury seaweed skincare that is nutritional, organic and authentic. Her hand-harvesting techniques are sustainable and her wild seaweeds have been certified organic.  “The organic certifications verify our hard work and endeavors in conservation to protect the marine environment.  We work with the whole seaweed to gently process it and retain all the exceptional elements contained deep within the seaflora,” says Diane.

Diane recently took the Willow Stream Spa team on one of her “Wild Seaweed Tours” in celebration of World Ocean Day (see photo album above). The team was able to learn about the incredible power of seaweeds, as they are packed with a higher concentration of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants then land based plants. Next came time to feel, smell and taste (for the brave) all the different seaweeds.
