Sunia and Khizar's wedding at Fairmont San Francisco
“Elegant, Fun and Full of Love”
Congratulations on your wedding! What made you decide on having your wedding with us at Fairmont?
We were able to have a lot of accommodations made to meet the needs of our traditional wedding. The Gold Room was exactly what we were looking for and required minimal decorations. We were able to host a cocktail hour in the Fountain Room for our guests, and there were enough rooms for the bride and bridal party to get ready in.
Where did you have your ceremony?
We had our ceremony two days before. In our culture, the bride's family gathers to greet the groom and his family when they arrive. The Fairmont was able to accommodate this for us easily. The bride's family gathered in the lobby and greeted the groom and his family with rose petals, music and lots of hugs. It was a very grand entrance and many hotel guests gathered and joined in on the fun!
Tell us about the flowers you chose. Did you go traditional or contemporary?
The flowers were very simple, just how we wanted it. They were elegant and added more beauty to our room. We didn't want to take away from the natural beauty of the room, so we only chose elements that complimented the room.
Tell us about the meal you served your guests. What type and flavor cake did you have at your reception?
The biggest thing for us was to make sure we served our guests Hala meat. The Fairmont was able to do this for us with no hassle. This was wonderful because it met the needs of many of our guests! We had appetizers and mocktails served during the cocktail hour. During the dinner we had a salad, entree was a choice of salmon, chicken or vegan pasta, and we had a dessert station!!! On top of that, we had a wedding cake which was OUT OF THIS WORLD. The cake was that of a royal ball!
Where did you go on your honeymoon? Tell us about it.
We went to Barcelona, Amalfi Coast and Istanbul. It was a 12 day adventure for us.
What element(s) did you add to make the wedding uniquely 'yours'?
Incorporating all of our traditions made our wedding very unique, and very US.
Another integral part of the day is the wedding dress! Tell us about what you chose to wear. Did you follow the old English saying "something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue"?
My dress was handmade from Pakistan. My mom and I designed it together.
Now that you are married and have had time to reflect on your wedding day, what was your favorite moment?
Our favorite moment was dancing with all of our friends and family that traveled from all over the world to be with us. We definitely didn't want the party to end!
