Jennifer and Matthew's Wedding at The Fairmont Copley Plaza

“It was always going to be a Boston wedding as our story started in the city...”

Congratulations on your wedding! What made you decide on having your wedding with us at Fairmont?

It was always going to be a Boston wedding as our story started in the city. We had our first dates in Boston, we moved in together in the city, and Matt and our family cheered me on at the 2013 Boston Marathon right there on Boylston Street a few months before we were engaged. The Fairmont Copley Plaza is a classic Boston Hotel. My mom asked me if I could get married anywhere where would it be and I said the Copley Plaza!

Where did you have your ceremony?

We were married at our neighborhood church in Charlestown. We had a traditional Catholic Mass with lots of family participating and a fantastic mix of musicians and singers.

Tell us about the flowers you chose. Did you go traditional or contemporary?

We choose very classic flowers. My bouquet was white with green accents, the bridesmaids and groomsmen had blush colored flowers with green accents and our table arrangements had more pinks that cascaded over the vase and on to the table. We loved the flowers and that was the only decoration we added to the beautiful Ballroom, which needed no additions!

Tell us about the meal you served your guests. What type and flavor cake did you have at your reception?

We had three options for our guests, one was a very flavorful pepper and rosemary crusted beef tenderloin that everyone loved. Being a summer night in Boston, we had a herb roasted North Atlantic Halibut which was light and yummy on our hot summer day. We also had an amazing vegetable risotto that was enjoyed too! Our caked was included and made by Cakes to Remember. Our two flavors were blanc de blanc, which was a shortbread type with was a light lemon buttermilk cake filled with fresh strawberry mousseline and covered with white chocolate buttercream, and the caramel fudge, which was a devils food chocolate cake, filled with a blend of rich caramel and chocolate creams frosted with sweet vanilla buttercream.

What element(s) did you add to make the wedding uniquely ‘yours’?

We named all our tables after neighborhoods and landmarks in the city, Public Gardens, Fenway, Copley Square, Charlestown, Beacon Hill, etc. I have collected quotes for years, so each table had a love quote we had picked and a bookmark at each seat to hold pictures from the photobooth! Most of our guests loved dancing along to our live band. As my mom said, the room just commands a band and they rocked out on that stage and had everyone up and out of their seats! Towards the end of the night we also served my favorite food - nachos!

Another integral part of the day is the wedding dress! Tell us about what you chose to wear. Did you follow the old English saying “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue”?

I purchased my wedding dress at the same dress shop my mom picked her wedding dress. It was a nice tradition and a store that has been around for almost 100 years. My something old and blue was a handkerchief that was white with blue trim from my late grandmother. My something new was my shoes and jewelry and my something borrowed was a shamrock pin from my mom that was her mom's. I also had a sixpence from my husband's co-worker in my shoe! Our first song was Crazy Love by Van Morrison and then we jumped to Signed Sealed Delivered and invited all our guests on the floor to dance with us. There were so many amazing moments from that day. Luckily we have a wedding video that we can watch every year on our anniversary to live it all again. My favorite moments were our first dance, the toasts and the few moments we took for just the two of us to go up on the balcony to look down at all the fun our guests were having and to reflect on finally being married!
