An Elegant Vancouver Wedding

“The wedding day was simply beautiful, elegant and magical.”

Congratulations on your wedding! What made you decide on having your wedding with us at Fairmont?

We have decided to have our wedding with Fairmont because of the superior quality of the facility, catering and service that your hotels offer. What attracted us most is the consistent quality of experience we get at any Fairmont hotel we stay in all over the world.

Where did you have your ceremony?

We had our ceremony at the Holy Rosary Cathedral in downtown Vancouver.
At the reception, I wore a traditional Korean dress called "Hanbok" (my husband's heritage) and my husband wore a traditional Filipino dress shirt called "Barong" (my heritage). This was a representation of the marriage and acceptance of two beautiful cultures.

Tell us about the flowers you chose. Did you go traditional or contemporary?

I chose very traditional flowers with orchids, calla lilies and a mix of beautiful summer blooms.

Tell us about the meal you served your guests. What type and flavor cake did you have at your reception?

We served the Oru Menu which was a sumptuous buffet of seafood, prime rib, salmon, chicken and decadent desserts! We had a multi-tier belgian chocolate cake.

Where did you go on your honeymoon? Tell us about it.

We went on our honeymoon in Italy for 17 days. It was the most beautiful trip because we covered the most romantic, relaxing and picturesque areas of Italy such as Sorrento, Amalfi, Positano, Ravello, Capri, Venice, Cinque Terre and Milan. We fell in love with the people, the food, shopping and just the wonderful vibe we experienced while we were there!

What element(s) did you add to make the wedding uniquely 'yours'?

We had a beautiful spread at our candy buffet that represented our love for sweets, as well as a fun photo booth that represented our love for capturing life's wonderful moments. We gave our guests personalized bottles of wine as "thank you" presents that signified our love for wine and the Okanagan where we got engaged and we visit every year up to this day.

Another integral part of the day is the wedding dress! Tell us about what you chose to wear. Did you follow the old English saying "something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue"?

I bought my wedding dress from Bisou Bridal and chose the Augusta Jones Alaina dress. I wore a beautiful cathedral veil with it and felt like a princess! Yes I followed the tradition: something old - my earrings, something new - my dress, something borrowed - my grandparents' song we danced to, something blue - my custom shoes.

What was the first song you danced to as newlyweds?

We danced to my late grandparents' song (I was raised by my grandparents in the Philipinnes and their only dream was to be at my wedding. My grandpa passed away in 2007 and my grandma in 2012). I made a slideshow of their photos which were projected on the wall as my new husband and I danced to their song called "Eternally" from 1950's.

Now that you are married and have had time to reflect on your wedding day, what was your favorite moment?

My favourite moment was the time my husband and I got to spend together at Dr. Sun Yat Sen gardens after the ceremony and before the reception (we were waiting for photographers to arrive). We had a beautiful moment alone (no wedding party or family/friends) to savour that magical moment and take everything in. That was the happiest moment of my life.
