Deborah & Graham's Elegant Fairmont Pacifc Rim Wedding

“Elegant, intimate and energetic surrounded by the love of Family & Friends!”

Congratulations on your wedding! What made you decide on having your wedding with us at Fairmont?

The Fairmont Pacific Rim is very special to us, it is our home away from home. We have a connection with the people and knew that they would take every care to make our day special and amazing.

Where did you have your ceremony?

Our Wedding Ceremony was held at Queen Elizabeth Park, Vancouver, BC. In honour of Graham's father who has passed away we played his favourite song "It's a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong during the ceremony.

Tell us about the flowers you chose. Did you go traditional or contemporary?

The bridal bouquet was modern romantic with peonies, orchids and roses ranging from ivory to deep pink. The bridesmaids bouquets completed in shades of hot pink both to the bride's bouquet and the Groom's socks.

Tell us about the meal you served your guests. What type and flavor cake did you have at your reception?

We started with a sushi and oyster bar complemented with champagne. Amuse Bouche - Vichyssoise Fois Gras. Appetizer was fresh Qualicum Beach Scallops. Entrée - AAA Angus Beef Medallions. Instead of bridal cake the pastry chef created a special dessert for us Dark Chocolate Gorgonzola Cheesecake, fresh local cherry compote and chocolate ganache. With beautiful wine pairings for each course by Jill Spoor, Wine Director.

Where did you go on your honeymoon? Tell us about it.

We had two honeymoons, the first at The Fairmont Empress, Victoria and the second at The Fairmont Orchid, Hawaii.

What element(s) did you add to make the wedding uniquely 'yours'?

We asked for a family tree that symbolized life and asked our guests to write messages of love and inspiration on ivory tags with navy blue ribbons to be hung on the tree.

Another integral part of the day is the wedding dress! Tell us about what you chose to wear. Did you follow the old English saying "something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue"?

The dresses were inspired by a family wedding photo in honour of mother and designed by my best friend Chloe Angus. The first sketches of the bride's gown was done over a glass of bubbly in the lobby lounge of the Pacific Rim. My dress was a custom made ball gown style with silver and pearl embroidered French lace and 20 meters of ivory duchess silk. The bridesmaids wore custom made tea length dresses in midnight blue silk taffeta.

What was the first song you danced to as newlyweds?

Song Bird by Eva Cassidy

Now that you are married and have had time to reflect on your wedding day, what was your favorite moment?

The entire day was amazing, being able to celebrate our special day with close friends and family. Half of our guests travelled from across Canada and the UK to be with us.
I was very happy to have my father at 87 years old travel from Ontario to celebrate and give his daughter away to my best friend, Graham.
Mr. Philip Barnes described our wedding as the "Royal Wedding" because all of his team wanted to be a part of our special day. And they were in our hearts and memories today.
